Sometimes when I’m dreaming….I see it. A long, dark corridor that never has an end. There is no light except for where I stand. Just a small red bulb that gives out an eerie glow. As I begin to walk down I fear leaving the light but at the same time I fear the light itself. It’s as if the light could consume me if I stay there too long so my only option is to run from it into the dark. However, no matter how far I’ve gone down the corridor every time I look back I see the red glow. I never make progress to leave it’s light and my heart starts to pound so hard in my chest it hurts. After a long time running away I come across a door. I have tried opening it many times in my dream but could never remember what happens afterwards because I wake up. In a cold sweat with the same fear still lingering I try to remember my dream but it leaves my memories just as quickly as it came. It’s as though I’ve pulled something from it but can’t figure out what it is. So I try to sleep. I try to remember what it was that gave me that lingering fear. I’m back in the corridor again only this time I’m standing right before the door, the red glow is gone and I’m in complete darkness. I try to open the door but this time instead of there being a door handle it was replaced by a grotesque rotted hand. It begins to move as mine comes close to grabbing it. Somehow I know that I’m supposed to grab it. It pulls me through the door and into a small room. As I look up I see the red glow again…this time there is a figure standing under it. My heart starts to hurt again as it starts to pound in my chest. I’m barely able to get up. I want to see who this person is standing under the light. Once I’m close to it I notice that it’s covered over with a black sheet. Fear begins to grip my entire body as I inch forward to pull the sheet away but before I am able to these hands come jutting out of nowhere and grab hold of me, pulling my body down to the ground. The sounds of wailing sirens starts to fill the room and hurts my ears, then a hissing sound and the figure before me begins to move. It pulls the sheet from itself revealing a nightmare….
A pulsating mass of flesh, blood, and bone. Trembling as it comes nearer and nearer. I couldn’t tell if it was a boy or girl but somewhere under the mass I could hear a voice….it sounded like a small girl…crying. It begged me to end it’s life and take the pain away. The hands from nowhere were still holding me down, gripping me so hard it hurt. I felt as though there were going to rip me apart. One hand violently grabbed hold of my hair and jerked my head up and then fingers began to grip my face. Forcing my eyes wide open and making me stare at this ‘thing’ walking towards me. Once it got to eye level I heard the sirens wailing again and I screamed.
It was still dark when I woke up again. My heart was still pounding in my chest and sweat soaked through my sheets made me shiver. How could I remember this dream…..? I simply never left it. With that same fear and ache I went back to sleep…The nightmare was dreaming of me.
